January 14, 2026 by Joey Barrett

Marblehead native Miles O’Neill, a former quarterback for Texas A&M, has transferred to the University of North Carolina, helmed by former New England Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick.

O’Neill has three years of eligibility remaining. This season with the Aggies, he completed 7-of-14 passes with 120 yards and one touchdown.

As for the Tar Heels, they went 4-8 and just 2-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. UNC recorded wins against Charlotte, Richmond, Syracuse, and Stanford.

It recently announced Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator. Petrino has college and NFL experience, and has been a head coach at the collegiate level for 18 seasons, compiling a 137-78 career record.

During O’Neill’s junior season at Marblehead High, the gunslinger completed 152-of-210 passes with 2,181 yards and 23 touchdowns. He then suited up for The Hun School of Princeton in New Jersey.
