Marblehead’s boys lacrosse team (16-0) was undefeated heading into Saturday’s game against Lexington. Spoiler alert, it still is.
The Magicians, who doubled up Lexington 14-7, were led by superstar Connor Cronin who ripped four goals to go with two assists. Charlie Grenier wasn’t too shabby, either, registering a pair of goals and three assists. Goalie Finn Maniaci made 10 saves between Marblehead’s pipes.

St. John’s Shrewsbury 5
The St. John’s Prep Eagles (16-2) concluded their Catholic Conference regular season with a 15-5 win against St. John’s Shrewsbury Tuesday, headlined by six unanswered goals in the third quarter.
With the victory, The Prep secured a share of the Catholic Conference championship for the fourth consecutive season (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023).
Jimmy Ayers led the way with four goals and an assist, while Will Sawyer scored two goals and dished out two assists. Cam McCarthy and Nate Jones added two goals apiece.
Jack Doherty won 9 of 18 faceoffs, while Gavin Kornitsky made eight saves on 13 shots.

The St. John’s Prep Eagles (15-2) defeated Malden Catholic Wednesday (May 17) afternoon as nine Eagles scored goals, including Drew Bossi (4) and Oliver Rosselli (4). John Droggitis, Jake Guertin, and Drew Klein led Prep’s defense.
Jimmy Nardone, Nolan Convey, and Joe Bullard each netted two goals, while Nathan Bernarducci and Chase Kenyon combined to go 15/16 in faceoffs.

The Magicians (11-7) never quit, even if they were behind at one point 4-1. The Magicians rallied behind a big fourth inning, scoring five runs to take the lead.
Winthrop added a run back in the fifth inning, but the Magicians made sure to add an insurance run in the sixth inning to see the game out.
When the game is tight, Giardi calls on Chris Cannuscio, who added another save to his record. In the last five Magicians victories, Cannuscio recorded four saves and one win.

The Magicians (9-7) have been hot as of late, but met their match against the Beverly Panthers Wednesday, May 17. Riley Schmitt (2 hits) and Shane Keough (2) accounted for Marblehead’s four hits, while Drew Whitman struck out seven on the hill.
“When you play good teams, you cannot give them extra opportunities,” Marblehead coach Mike Giardi said.

Prep’s Cam LaGrassa, Will Shaheen, Johnny Tighe, and Jordan Henriquez all recorded hits, but unfortunately for the Eagles, that would be all.
St. Paul capitalized on its five hits to score three runs in a defensive thriller. Jack Sarnon (5 strikeouts) and Anthony Romana (4) pitched well for the Eagles.

It was a tough afternoon for the Magicians. The Falcons protected their home diamond, forcing the Magicians to go home empty-handed Monday.
Ruby Calienes went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while teammate Tessa Andriano went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Ruby Calienes allowed three hits and retired 10 in Marblehead’s 12-1 thrashing of Swampscott Friday. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Marblehead freshman Isabel Mortensen went 3-for-4, while teammates Sophia Hallisey and Eva Walton each went 2-for-4.
Tessa Andriano returned from an ankle injury, and it’s safe to say Marblehead is a better team with her in the lineup.
“She made her presence known with an excellent catch in foul territory, as well as knocking in two runs with a double to deep center,” Marblehead coach Jonathan Gold said.

Marblehead’s softball team got it done Wednesday, May 17, shutting out the Vikings in a 12-0 final score. Pitcher Ruby Calienes struck out 11, walked no one, and allowed just three hits.
Isabel Mortensen, Luka Bornhorst, Eve Walton, and Sophia Hallisey each recorded two hits, and Anna Bobowski – who hit the ball hard from beginning to end – added a hit to drive in run number 12 for the Magicians.

The Magicians (6-12) lost a close game against North Reading on Monday afternoon. Lucy Wales led the Magicians with four goals, while teammate Sydney Langton contributed with a hat-trick.

Talk about a nailbiter. Marblehead’s girls lacrosse team (5-10) continued its strong second half to the season with a narrow win against Masco.
Superstar sniper Sydney Langton led the offense with six goals, while Lucy Wales, Ramona Gillett, and Maddie Forbes accounted for the other three. Kate Santesanio stood strong between the pipes with 10 saves.

Marblehead’s boys tennis team (15-3) continued its stellar season with a win against Hamilton-Wenham Tuesday. Mika Garber and Matthew Sherf grabbed singles wins, and the combination of Etan Farfel and Jayden Janock got the job done in doubles.

Marblehead outplayed a solid Manchester-Essex team to improve its record to 14-3 on the season. Mika Garber (6-1, 6-0), Jost Eggebrecht (6-3, 6-4), and Matthew Sherf (6-2, 6-0) all won their respective matches. Doubles team Etan Farfel and Jayden Janock didn’t lose a set, winning their match 6-0, 6-0.

Marblehead’s boys tennis team (12-3 overall; 10-0 in Northeastern Conference) has had a stellar season, but met its match against Brookline Friday. Etan Farfel and Devin Nahata each made things happen in singles play, but both fell short.

Marblehead’s boys tennis team (12-2) upped its Northeastern Conference record to 10-0 on Wednesday, May 17, besting Masco in straight games. Mika Garber, Jost Eggebrecht, and Etan Farfel all won in singles.
“It was senior day for Marblehead’s team and it was very gratifying to have our senior co-captains, Jimmy King and Jack Wykes, come through in a third match tie-breaker,” Marblehead coach Elisabeth Foukal said.

Simply put, and as Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman said, “Hamilton-Wenham showed why they are the defending Division 4 state champions.” Marblehead (13-5) lost 5-0 Tuesday.
Charly Cooper fought hard in third singles, but to no avail. The duo of Aoife Bresnahan and Lucia Levin played well in second doubles, but fell 3-6, 4-6.

Lucia Levin and Aoife Bresnahan won their doubles match 6-2, 7-6, 7-3, while Charly Cooper won her third singles match 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to lead Marblehead on Monday.
With the match tied at 2-2, it was Courtney Yoder and Aviva Bornstien getting the better of their opponents, winning their match 6-4, 6-4 and ultimately earning Marblehead the team victory.

As Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman said, “Masco showed why they are the defending state title champions.”
Courtney Yoder and Aviva Bornstein had a competitive match in first doubles before losing 2-6, 3-6.
“Courtney and Aviva got the Masco team off-balance by playing different formations,” Ackerman said.
Aoife Bresnahan and Lucia Levin lost to a “super strong” Masco duo (1-6, 1-6), according to Ackerman.
“Hats off to Masco. They have very talented players, all who have returned from last year. We wish them the best of luck in defending their state title again,” Ackerman said. “The girls showed tremendous sportsmanship to our team [and] it was great camaraderie between the two teams.”
TRACK AND FIELD
Marblehead squared off against its fellow Northeastern opponents at the conference meet this weekend, and, boy, did the Magicians impress. Keira Sweetnam placed third in triple jump (34-9), while also finishing third in high jump (34-7).
Rachael Albert — in her first season throwing javelin — tossed a 97-4 to place third. Ryan Thompson finished second in the 400mh with a sub-60, and Ava Machado ran the 100m in 13.01s. Cate Trautman ran the 200m in 26.56s.
