The No. 10 St. John’s Prep baseball team lost 4-3 against rival and No. 7 BC High Wednesday, June 7. After a back-and-forth contest, the Eagles in blue and white were eliminated from the Division 1 state tournament.
BC High got out to a quick 2-0 start in the third inning, but an Aidan Driscoll single in the bottom of the fifth made it a brand new game.
From there, and despite another run for The Prep, it wasn’t enough in the 4-3 final. Prep ends its season 13-9 behind coach Dan Letarte.
BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 13
North Andover 2
So far in this Division 1 boys lacrosse tournament, St. John’s Prep is 3-0 with a 43-6 goal differential — not too shabby behind coach John Pynchon.
Sunday was another chapter of the same dominant book. The No. 1 Eagles flew over No. 8 North Andover 13-2 to advance to the Final Four against Hingham.
Jimmy Ayers and Harlan Graber led the charge with two goals apiece, continuing their, well, season-long hot streaks. Gavin Kornitsky made 12 saves between the pipes, while Chris Esposito won 11 of 14 faceoffs.
Matt Morrow, Jake Vana, Rowan Mondello, Will Sawyer, and Luke Kelly all went home with a goal and an assist. Jack Doherty also impressed on draws, going 4-for-4 in the victory – one in which 12 Eagles registered points.
St. John’s Prep 14
Barnstable 3
No. 1 St. John’s Prep (18-1) must’ve utilized its first-round bye, because the Eagles came out swinging against Barnstable Tuesday, June 6.
In the 14-3 final, The Prep was led by Jimmy Ayers (3 goals). He was also named the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete of the Year Tuesday – not a bad day for the hockey-lacrosse star.
Jake Vana had two goals and an assist, while Jimmy Nardone and Will Sawyer each had a goal and assist. Rowan Mondello and Cam McCarthy each dished out two assists.
Talk about a versatile offense – The Prep had 11 goal-scorers. Chris Esposito also won seven of eight faceoffs, while Austin Kitces made three saves on three shots.
