The Seasiders defeated the Powerhouse 2-1 on Sunday for their fifth win and first since June 13 (7-3 against Manchester). Marblehead had lost four games heading in.
It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough. The Seasiders registered no hits and struck out 11 times. On the mound, however, it was a different story. Jack Lindsay and James Guigino combined to hold the Powerhouse to just one run on six hits. Guigino closed, allowing no hits and punching out five across nearly three innings of action.
As for how the victors touched home plate, in the bottom of the fourth inning, captain Trey Blackmer led off by getting hit by a pitch. He went around to third on a wild pitch, just beating a late throw to third. From there, he scored Marblehead’s first run on Ryan Gallagher’s ground out. Then, Brady Lavender walked and was wild pitched to third where he scored the winning run on Mike Mitchell’s ground out.
The Seasiders stand at 5-6 halfway through the season, returning home Sunday to battle Kingston at 5 p.m.
