The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) is the largest girl-serving organization in the state and the tenth-largest Girl Scout council in the country. On May 11, the organization voted Marbleheader Jodi-Tatiana Charles in as one of its three new members of the Board of Directors. Charles’ resume suggests that she is not only adequately qualified to be on the board, but also a good role model for the Girl Scouts.
Charles earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in sociology from Suffolk University. She then went on to Babson College to earn her master’s degree in those same subjects. She also studied at Babson’s Franklin W. Olin Graduate School of Business before earning three separate executive education certificates from St. Petersburg State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management, and Harvard University Business School.
Charles has more than 30 years of executive leadership in marketing, branding, and communications. She has worked for Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, MassChallenge Inc., Massachusetts Governor’s Office, Massachusetts Conference for Women, NBC Universal/Comcast TV, and Clear Channel Communications/iHeart Radio. She also has entrepreneurial experience as the founder of LCG Brands, a marketing and consulting firm dedicated to educating entrepreneurs, businesses, and international professionals on the importance of growing their personal and corporate brands.
What may be most relevant as it pertains to Charles’ new role is her history of providing content to help youth. She is a published children’s book author and the host of the podcast “Minding Your Business with Jodi-Tatiana,” which educates children about their heritage and why they should embrace it. GSEMA Chief Executive Officer Barbara Fortier noted how much influence the Board of Directors has in its mission to provide girls with opportunities.
“Our Board of Directors (is) so vital to helping advance the Girl Scouts mission,” Fortier said. “Our organization is fully dedicated to providing all girls, no matter their circumstances, unmatched opportunities to be their best selves, champion causes, embrace the outdoors, and gain perspectives from peers outside their social circles. We are pleased to welcome our newly-elected board members, whose talents and commitment will help make strides for every current and future Girl Scout.”
