The North Shore Children’s Theatre and the Theatre of Light have teamed up to offer a special one-week “Matilda” theatre program for children ages 6 to 13. The program will take place the week of Aug. 7 through Aug. 11, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Shore Children’s Theatre’s main campus at 18 Prospect St.
The Matilda theatre program is geared for beginning young actors, as well as those with experience. During the week while rehearsing for the play, participants will learn a variety of acting skills, including how to create a believable character, stage speech and diction, comic timing, and theatre techniques with a focus on teamwork and gaining confidence. The finale of the program is a play production of “Matilda,” which will take place in the afternoon on Friday, Aug. 11th at 1 p.m.
Nicole Poirier, artistic director of the North Shore Children’s Theatre, wrote an original play version of “Matilda” based on Roald Dahl’s well-known story. This version of the play has the theme of “every child is special”. Poirier will be co-directing the program with Miriam Eyges, director of the Theatre of Light.
The Matilda theatre program has a limited enrollment of 15 participants. There is a nominal tax-deductible participation fee for this program. For more information, call 339-228-7663 or email theatreoflight@comcast.net.
