In 1957, the Daily Evening Item was happy to report that the Marblehead Historic District still maintained its original style from when the town was founded in 1649. Another 70 years later, Marblehead’s “ancient homes and streets” still possess most of their 17th-century aesthetic. The most notable change from 1957 is the addition of porches to some residences, specifically on High Street. With the help of consistent restoration and the addition of modern necessities, the narrow streets remain lined with colonial-style homes that have maintained the “ruggedness” of the past and hosted generations of Marblehead residents.
