Talking trash
Per direction of the Health Board, and in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2023, trash and recycling will be picked up one day late on the following days:
Monday trash and recycling will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 3
Tuesday trash and recycling will be collected on Wednesday, Jan. 4
Wednesday trash and recycling will be collected on Thursday, Jan. 5
Thursday trash and recycling will be collected on Friday, Jan. 6
Friday trash and recycling will be collected on Saturday, Jan. 7
The Transfer Station will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 31 and on Monday, Jan. 2
Glover’s Crossing
The annual Crossing the Delaware reenactment by Glover’s Regiment will take place at State Street landing on Friday, Dec. 30, 4:30 p.m.
On Christmas night, 1776, according to the regimental website, Salem native John Glover and the 14th Continental Regiment ferried George Washington and 2,400 men across the Delaware River at night, in desperate weather, and marched them nine miles into Trenton, where they fought a 36-hour successful battle and marched back to the Delaware with 900 Hessian captives, crossing successfully back over.
Kids’ New Year
Gerry 5, 210 BeaconSt., hosts a kid-friendly New Year’s Eve party on Saturday, Dec. 31, 5-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. “ball drop.” Tickets are available in advance at the Gerry or at the door and tickets may be used for a five dollar credit toward food.
Entertainment includes Mojo Men (Owen Harrison, Sawyer Harrison, Matteo Rosato, Jeremy Todd) offering music from the Beatles to Green Day. Please bring a food donation for the Marblehead Food Pantry.
Day One dance
The Jewish Community Center of the North Shore, 4 Community Road, hosts an Israelis dance morning on New Year’s Day, from 8-9:45 a.m. RSVP if you plan on attending to ns.folk.dance.@gmail.com
