Headers protect home ice in Sunday matinee

The Marblehead boys hockey team jumped all over Hopedale/Milford at home Sunday Morning, winning 5-2 to start the day off right. Kyle Hart led Marblehead’s charge with two goals and an assist.

Avin Rodovsky (goal, assist), Cam Waldman (goal), Charlie Grenier (goal), Hogan Sedky (assist), and Crew Monaco (assist) all joined the fun, as did Leo Burdge who played well in net for the Headers.

BOYS HOCKEY

St. John’s Prep 6
St. John’s High 1

It began with a snipe from Caleb White in the opening period, and it was all St. John’s Prep from there on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The Eagles celebrated six times en route to a 6-1 thrashing of St. John’s High.

Brendan Powers and Johnny Tighe added to the scoring to put Prep ahead, 3-0. The opposition scored a much-needed goal, but the Eagles responded with three more in the third period to put a lid on St. John’s High. Those goals came from Powers, White, and Tighe.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marblehead 75
Winthrop 50

The Magicians protected homecourt with a dominating win Monday night. They led 42-21 at the half and didn’t look back. Nick Lemmond scored 17 to lead the Magicians, who travel to Salem this Friday at 7 p.m.

Xaverian 58
St. John’s Prep 34

St. John’s Prep had no answer for explosive Xaverian Friday night, which sported two players in double digits in Lorenzo Carrara (23 points) and JJ Honekamp (13).

WRESTLING

The St. John’s Prep wrestling team remains undefeated toward the end of January after beating Putnam, Agawam, West Springfield, and Springfield Central on Saturday.

Braedon Goes, Jimmy Lally, Will LaVallee, Jayden D’Ambrosio, Matt Pineiro, Vincent Bilotti, Rani Haddad, Marc Pineiro, and Alex Bajoras all went 4-0 for the Eagles, who stand at a perfect 28-0 this season.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Marblehead 105
Gloucester 72

At the Lynch/Van Otterloo YMCA Thursday night, Marblehead swam all the way to a 5-0 record – that’s because the Magicians defeated the Fishermen, 105-72, behind coach Susan Guertin.
