The Marblehead swimming and diving team traveled to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute this past weekend for sectionals. The girls placed sixth overall and boys placed 13th in “a very competitive field with over 35 teams participating,” as said by coach Susan Guertin.
Top-five finishers included Logan Doody (22.23, 50 free; 49.50, 100 free), Song Waitekus (2:13.51, 200 IM; 1:00.46, 100 butterfly), Bella Takata (2.15.83, 200 IM; 1:09.94, 100 breaststroke), and the 400 free relay team of Sophia Weiner, Brinleigh Callahan, Waitekus, and Takata (3:48.59).
The team will be participating in the state championship Saturday (girls) and Sunday (boys) at MIT (4 p.m.).

After a seven-game winning streak, Marblehead had to settle for a tie against Danvers on Saturday. Kyle Hart (2 assists), Avin Rodovsky, and Cam Waldman scored the goals, while James Caeran dished out two helpers for the Headers.

The Lady Headers dropped one to Shawsheen at home in a Saturday evening showdown, but not without positives. Madi Reno tickled twine in the third period, while freshman goalie Scarlett Lee continued her hot streak with another 41 saves.

Despite defeat, the Lady Headers (17 blocks in total) received third period goals from Maddie Graber and Ella Graham. Paige Waldman, Madi Reno, and Teyah Fleming dished out the assists, while freshman goalie Scarlett Lee stayed hot with 31 saves.
WRESTLING
In the Division 2 North Sectionals at Burlington High School, the co-op grappling team of Marblehead-Swampscott finished seventh out of 13 teams and saw six of its wrestlers move on to states.
Mason Hinshaw (144 pounds) and Angelo Knight (215) secured first-place finishes, while Brady Haskell (106) and Liam O’Brien (120) earned seconds. Justin Gonzalez (285) finished fourth, while Ben O’Brien (190) went home with fifth.
