A look into the Seasiders, by the numbers

July 5, 2023 by Joey Barrett

With 12 games under their belt (press time), the Marblehead Seasiders are in the middle of the pack. Of the 13-team North Shore Baseball League, the Seasiders sit in seventh place at 5-7 with 10 points and a win percentage of .417.

That said, Marblehead is – perhaps – just two wins away from fourth place, where the Beverly Recs sit comfortably at 6-6 (13 points). Between the fourth and ninth-placed teams, they’re separated by just three points.

For reference, the teams looking down upon the rest are the Northeast Tides (11-3; 22 points), (10-2; 21 points), and North Shore Phillies (10-3; 20 points). Towards the bottom, are Powerhouse (6 points), Kingston (6), and the North Shore Freedom (2) combining for just 14 points.

Other than Kingston’s 92 runs allowed, Marblehead has given up the most with 85. That said, its timely hitting and 41 runs scored have kept the Seasiders alive.

With two three-hit games thus far, Mike Mitchell leads Marblehead in hits (7) and batting average (.368). Better yet, he’s doing it in just nine games featuring 19 at-bats.

The other two Seasiders hitting above .300 are Ryan and Ian Gallagher. Ryan boasts a .350 while Ian follows close behind with a .318. They each have seven hits, and Ryan leads the team in RBI with 10.

Ryan has 10 of Marblehead’s 24 RBI.

Colin Dhaliwal has contributed nicely with a .250 batting average, Trey Blackmer is second on the team in RBI (5), and Brady Lavender is sixth on the team in batting average (.222).

Of Marblehead’s six stolen bases, Dhaliwal leads with two, while Blackmer, Lavender, Eric Lucey, and Harry Lynch have all swiped one.

James Giugino is atop the Seasiders in games pitched with six, and his numbers prove solid. Giugino is 2-1 across 19 1/3 innings, striking out 20 and sporting an ERA of 2.90.

Jack Lindsay has punched out 17, Lucey has struck out 11, and Dhaliwal follows with 10. Gallagher has also impressed, striking out nine and allowing just six earned runs across three games.
