Saving our Shoreline Presented by Salem Sound Coastwatch Executive Director Barbara Warren Wednesday, March 20, 6:45 – 8 p.m.
As storms batter our coast, causing more damage, we begin to see what the future may hold if we do not act. Barbara Warren will provide updates on how the Commonwealth and the Salem Sound municipalities are grappling with these problems, including the new initiative, ResilientCoasts. She will also share the progress of several local resilience-building projects and some of the challenges they will need to overcome.
Registration is required to attend in person at Abbot Public Library at Eveleth School or via Zoom. Please register in advance for this meeting at tinyurl.com/saving-our-shoreline. After registering for Zoom, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
Warren also serves as the Lower North Shore regional coordinator for the Massachusetts Bays National Estuary Partnership. She has a master’s of science in environmental studies from Antioch New England and a master’s of education from Lesley University. She has completed training in communicating climate risk and engaging stakeholders in solutions. As a certified Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness provider, Warren focuses much of her work on climate awareness and coastal resilience projects in Salem, Manchester, Marblehead, Beverly, Peabody and Danvers.

Building Local Solutions to Biodiversity Loss: One Pollinator Pathway at a Time, Wednesday, March 27, 6:30 – 8 p.m.
Abbot Public Library and Sustainable Marblehead invite the community to attend a talk about the importance of native plants and pollinators and their connection to biodiversity. Speaker Peggy MacLeod will explore community strategies for reversing the critical loss of biodiversity in order to create a more resilient future. MacLeod will describe how adopting a biodiversity mindset can provide four seasons of beauty, sustain a wide range of native wildlife habitats, offer greater hope for the future, and lead to a deeper connection with nature. Learn about a movement across Massachusetts to build pollinator pathways that expand habitat using important native trees, shrubs, and plants. Registration is required to attend in person at Abbot Public Library at Eveleth School or via Zoom. Please register at tinyurl.com/local-solutions.
After a 30-year career promoting clean energy and green building, MacLeod co-founded Western Mass Pollinator Networks and more recently the Massachusetts Pollinator Network. She is passionate about stimulating community-wide collaboration to create nature-based solutions such as planting native trees, shrubs, and flowers to form pollinator pathways.
