This December, residents are invited to discover how simple landscape changes can help restore local ecosystems. Abbot Public Library, in partnership with Sustainable Marblehead, will host “Transition Your Lawn: Plant Hope,” an informative program focused on transitioning from traditional manicured lawns to environmentally beneficial alternatives.
The event will explore the high environmental costs of those uniform green lawns, and offer practical strategies for reducing lawn maintenance, decreasing water usage, absorbing carbon, eschewing lawn chemicals and added nutrients, and promoting biodiversity—steps that support healthier soil, pollinators, and waterways. Attendees will learn about five potential models for switching to more natural landscaping and how these can make a measurable difference for both their property and the planet.
Storyteller and climate activist Judith Black and garden designer Larry Simpson will share insight, guidance, and real-world examples of how residents can make the shift toward sustainable yard practices.
