The Board of Trustees of Abbot Public Library announced that they are having a launch party to celebrate the beginning of construction to renovate the library. Construction on the $9 million project began Jan. 25.
The event will be held at 235 Pleasant St. outdoors on March 8 at 11 a.m. In the event of bad weather, the launch party will be moved to March 15 at 11 a.m.
Speakers at the event will be Abbot Public Library Director Kimberly Grad, Board of Trustees of Abbot Public Library and Abbot Public Library Building Renovation Committee Chair Gary Amberik, and Select Board Chair Moses Grader.
Special guests that will be in attendance include Town Administrator Thatcher Kezer; Massachusetts State Representative Jenny Armini (D-Marblehead); Building Renovation Committee members; representatives from the Abbot Public Library Foundation, Friends of Abbot Public Library, Second Century Fund, and the Driftwood Garden Club; and team members from architects Johnson Roberts Associates, CHA Consulting, and L.D. Russo.
“At this event, photos of the interior of the library will not be allowed, but there will be a slideshow on view for reference,” a press release from Abbot Public Library said.
Amberik said in an interview last month that the main focus of the renovations is on the building’s infrastructure, including the electrical and heating systems. He said that do to the involved nature of these renovations, they will also use the opportunity to paint the entire building, and replace its ceilings and carpeting.
He said the renovated library would be ready to open in spring 2024.
