Kids Craft Afternoon
3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Children of any age and their caregivers can visit the Killam Children’s Room between 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. to make a craft to take home. Working freely with seasonal themed crafts enhances pre-literacy in children with practice in sequencing steps, hand-eye coordination, etc. No registration is required. Afterschool Chess Club
3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Students in grades 2-5 are welcome to this informal chess club to practice by playing with others also interested in developing their skills and sharing an interest in chess. The class will be held on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. with facilitator Ben Konoff and his daughter, Abigail. Class is limited to 10 children in grades 2-5. Online registration is required. Fall Candle Workshop
4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Coffee at the Library
9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Stop in to Abbot Public Library on Friday mornings to relax with a cup of coffee or tea. Find your next great read, chat with your neighbors, or just enjoy a quiet morning. Locally brewed Atomic Coffee from Marblehead’s Blue Canoe Cafe will be provided, as well as coffee fixings and a selection of tea. Bringing your own mug is encouraged! Music with Dara
10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
For 30 years, Dara VanRemoortel has been providing joyful and educational music programs at libraries, preschools, birthday parties and more. Her interactive programs include favorite classic songs and easy-to-learn new songs, finger puppets, finger plays, engaging props, rhythmic activities, instrument playing and creative movement. Lots of clapping, marching, singing, creative expression and FUN! This program is designed for the 2–5-year-old child, although older and younger children will enjoy it, too. Online registration is required. Funding for this program has been provided by the Abbot Public Library Foundation in partnership with the Oliver P. Killam Foundation. VIRTUAL EVENT: “The Gilded Age Christmas Cookbook” with Author Becky Libourel Diamond

If you’re a fan of the Gilded Age and food, join Abbot Public Library in partnership with Ashland Public Library at 7 p.m. to hear author Becky Libourel Diamond discuss her new book, “The Gilded Age Christmas Cookbook: Cookies and Treats from America’s Golden Era.” Registration is required to attend via Zoom. This program will be recorded and all registrants will receive the recording after the program.
Writers & Readers Open Mic
7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Abbot Public Library continues its Open Mic series, inviting the community to share their writings. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just starting out, this is a chance to connect with your community. Prepare a short story or nonfiction prose piece. A featured reader will open, then the mic will be open to the first 10 people who sign up (five minutes or less). Judith Nies of Marblehead will lead off the November session. Hosted by Claire Keyes.
