Black and Blue host first super-quad

January 7, 2026 by Joey Barrett

Marblehead/Swampscott’s co-op wrestling team hosted its first super-quad in program history Saturday with Beverly, North Attleborough, Plymouth South, Silver Lake, and Bridgewater-Raynham making trips to Marblehead High.

The Black and Blue went 1-3: Plymouth South (63-17 L), North Attleborough (64-12 L), Silver Lake (70-12 L), Bridgewater-Raynham (42-40 W).

“A great day for the program,” said Marblehead/Swampscott coach Michael Stamison. “While we went 1-3 as a team on the day, it was still nice to see three full mats out on the field house floor with 15 varsity dual-meets wrestled and another 60-plus exhibition matches able to take place.”

The dynamic duo of Liam O’Brien and Colin Hart delivered strong performances.

In the team’s bounce-back win against Bridgewater-Raynham, Kenny Drolette pinned his opponent at 120 pounds, while first-year sophomore Phil Duclos (144) came up big with his first varsity win via pinfall.

“Trailing 40-30 after a loss at 190, we needed our two big seniors to pull through and win their matches, with a pin and a tech fall needed in any order to secure the victory,” Stamison said. “At 215, senior Phineas Jakious returned to the lineup and stepped up big, pinning his opponent. At 285, senior Xavier Tejeda had his biggest win of his career, pinning his opponent and securing us the win over B-R, who we’ve never beaten before.”

Stamison couldn’t have been happier with the program’s supporting cast.

“A hearty thank you to our boosters and parents, our trainer Maddie Rowe, who not only kept us all healthy, but helped with set-up and breakdown, the Marblehead facilities staff, to Coach Ech and Beverly for lending us their mat, and to Marblehead Movers for transporting that mat. It was a lot of work, but the kids deserved to wrestle in their home gym. It all went very smoothly.”
