Earlier this month, Brown Elementary School third-grade teacher Lindsay Willard was able to show her students in real time that, as Bill Nye would say, science rules.
Willard spent a day learning about the “‘home of the world’s worst weather” at the observatory on the summit of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire.
“The unique and adventurous professional development opportunity, which aligns with the third-grade science standards, included a tour of the weather station and a chance to shadow weather scientists as they used a variety of instruments to collect and track hourly weather data,” interim Superintendent Theresa McGuinness said in a newsletter sent to families.
Willard took a snowcat to get to the top of the mountain, along with other teachers in New England.
To make the experience exciting for her students back in town, she was able to part take in a live video conference from the summit with third graders at Brown to “share about this wild weather experience,” McGuinness said.
