Around the corner from North Shore Community College sits a cafe called the Blue Canoe Cafe.
In 2018 founder Stephanie Maloney opened the doors to the public to begin serving quality coffee, freshly-baked goods, sandwiches and smoothies. Cafes have been no stranger to this location as the Blue Canoe replaced a previous cafe called the Atomic Cafe.
Although they have replaced the Atomic Cafe, they still remain close partners by stocking their shelves and using Atomic Coffee Roasters as their choice of bean.
Stephanie may also be remembered for her time as the owner of Kitchen Witch Enterprises for 21 years between 1988 and 2009. She may also be known for her time as the owner of The Boardroom Cafe in Beverly which closed its doors permanently in 2015.
The blue theme can’t be missed upon walking into the cafe with benches, chairs, and counters being a consistent royal blue color. As a nod to the name, a blue canoe also hangs from the ceiling as a light fixture. Despite the smaller space, the high ceilings and plenty of lighting makes the space feel much larger.
The service at the Blue Canoe is extremely friendly with employees greeting customers upon walking in. With a smile plastered on their faces, the employees truly seem to enjoy their work environment.
On the Blue Canoe’s website it mentions the significance of its name. The boat represents the community, being both “strong and steadfast, yet light and friendly.” While the color blue represents the harbor, the Atlantic ocean waters that fill it, and the sky above Brown’s Island.
Whether a paddle is in hand or not, the Blue Canoe welcomes all to try their coffee and enjoy the ambience.
