What is more Fourth of July than hot dogs and fireworks?
This year, you can have both at the Marblehead Festival of Arts.
The hot-dog stand Mad-Dogz Hot Dog Cart is owned and operated by Marblehead High School student Maddie Ferris.
Ferris will be selling hot dogs all summer, but for the Marblehead Festival of Arts from July 3 to July 7, she will be stationed on Washington Street from approximately 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
She said she will be dishing out dogs right next to the King Hooper Mansion.
Ferris said she did a taste test with her family using seven different types of hot dogs, and the ones that they all agreed were the best were Kayem all-beef hot dogs.
She said on a good day, she sells between 40 and 80 hot dogs at $4 a pop. She said last year’s Fourth of July week was the busiest week of the year, and she is looking forward to doing it again this year.
She also has all the fixings, from chips to ketchup and mustard.
Ferris said she would not be able to own and operate Mad-Dogz without the help of her father, Fred Ferris, who is also a business owner in town at Marblehead Hardware.
“He’s my biggest supporter,” Maddie Ferris said.
She said her favorite part about owning her own business is definitely being her own boss.
“Not many 17-year-olds have worked for themselves, right?” she said.
She said she also enjoys when her friends stop by and how she gets acquainted with everyone in town. She said the town has been “super, super supportive.”
“I only hear good things. Everyone wants me to succeed. It’s really really awesome to see. I think the support from everyone is my favorite,” Maddie Ferris said.
