Consider the Fishermen reeled in on the track

January 31, 2024 by Joey Barrett

Marblehead’s track and field team laced up against Gloucester on Friday, with the boys winning 60-26, and girls following with a 55-20 victory.

Graham Tips led the way in the high jump with a clearance of 5-6, while Paige Tredwell and Elise Burchfield both cleared the 5-0 mark.

“Graham has been battling shin splints over the past few weeks, and he still continues to jump very well,” said Marblehead coach Nolan Raimo.

Rachael Albert put on a show in the shot put.

“She won the shot for the girls, finally hitting 30 feet on her first throw (30 even) and then PRing again on her second with 31-2, more than a foot-and-a-half improvement from her previous best six weeks ago,” Raimo said.

In the long jump, and according to Raimo, Alex Hersey “leapt out of his shoes to a mark of 22-4” to win the event.

Thomas Carlson (6.65) and Ava Machado (7.47) both impressed in the 55m, while in the 55m hurdles, Hersey ran away from the field in a new personal best of 8.01. Tredwell won her 55m hurdles with a 9.20.

Running over to the mile, Nate Assa (4:46.71) and Will Cerrutti (4:48.93) went one-two, respectively.

“These two boys pushed each other throughout the race and were rewarded with great times on the flat track,” said coach William Herlihy.

Gabby Hendy and Isaias Aguasvivas Pena won the 300m, while in the 1,000m, “Henrik Adams (1st, 2:54.24, 3-second best) had the best race of his track career against one of the faster guys in the NEC (Northeastern Conference),” as said by Herlihy.

Jesslyn Roemer and Isaac Gross won the 2-mile, while in the 4x400m, Sarah Munroe, Lidia Jasmine Tiedra, Morgan Zion, and Hendy ran a 4:48.64 to finish second.
