The Division of Marine Fisheries has determined that the areas of Devereux and Tuckers beaches are now reopened to shellfishing after reexamining the waters.
The beaches were initially shut down on Jan. 11 following a sanitary sewer overflow caused by a storm that came through the area on Jan. 10. After retesting the waters, the Division of Marine Fisheries has concluded that the beaches are now safe.
“As a result, the status of that area has been changed to ‘OPEN TO SHELLFISHING’ effective as of sunrise on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024,” a statement from the Division of Marine Fisheries read. “Therefore, the below defined CONDITIONALLY APPROVED area may be opened to the harvest of shellfish for direct human consumption subject to local rules and regulations under authority of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 130, Section 52.”
