Marblehead’s girls soccer team (2-0) fended off rival Swampscott at home 2-0 on Monday. The hosts got off to a fast start as Ava Machado delivered a perfect cross to Liv Carlson who capitalized to give the Magicians an early lead (1-0).
In the second half, Talia Selby launched a shot from 40 yards out that lobbed the Big Blue goalie and hit the underside of the crossbar before going in (2-0). Goalie Kate Burns added a second consecutive clean sheet to her name.

At Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead, all eight Magicians won their match on Tuesday: Charlie Grenier, Simon Quicken, Jacob Hershfield, Marty Ryan, Adrian Baron, James Bickell, Matt Mahan, Toby Grenier. Seven players finished in the 30s for Marblehead (4-0).

The Magicians and Panthers fought yard, but had to settle for a tie Saturday morning in Marblehead. Captain Jack Burke scored both goals for the Magicians, while assists were provided by Kyle Hart and Max Dressel.

St. John’s Prep hosted Marshfield Friday night, winning 41-20 behind 187 yards and three touchdowns from Cam LaGrassa. A highlight included Prep’s Deacon Robillard hitting Mason McSweeney for a deep touchdown through the air.
The Prep hosts Central Catholic in a 1:30 p.m. matinee next Saturday.

Marblehead’s boys cross country team defeated Salem 15-50 at Gatchell Park to begin the season. Crossing the line first was senior captain Ryan Blestowe, followed by Nate Assa, senior captain Isaac Gross, Will Cerrutti, and Henrik Adams.
