The Disabilities Commission discussed grants and closed captioning at its monthly meeting.
Members of the commission mentioned that the Massachusetts Office on Disability grant for Marblehead Light and Devereux Beach had been submitted on time.
Chair Laurie Blaisdell said they “expect to hear the outcome in a few months.”
Commission member Gail Mack also addressed using closed captions for hearing-impaired people during all town meetings.
Mack said “impeding access to people’s ability to engage in the meeting and to hear what is being said in a public meeting” has occurred for her and others.
Mack stated that she would like to “write some letters to the heads of boards in town asking them to consider accessibility features when they’re setting a Zoom call in motion.”
“These boards could be increasing accessibility when they enable these features,” Mack said.
Blaisdell suggested writing to Town Administrator Thatcher Kezer and said “they have senior staff meetings and maybe that could be a discussion and they could teach them how to enable it.”
The commission will reconvene in September.
