Residents of Essex County voted early, mailed in their ballots, and showed up in numbers to their polling stations on Tuesday. As of press time, the City of Lynn did not release its unofficial results.
Clerk of Courts
Democratic incumbent Tom Driscoll of Swampscott came into the election seeking his fifth six-year term in the role. He was challenged by Unenrolled candidate Todd Angilly of Lynnfield and Independent Doris Rodriguez of Lawrence.
As Wednesday morning, Driscoll received 17,243 votes in Lynn, 9,865 in Marblehead, 1,430 in Nahant, 14,715 in Peabody, 6,250 in Saugus, and 6,324 in Swampscott. In Lynnfield, Driscoll received 2,561 votes as opposed to Angilly’s 4,216. Lynnfield, where Angilly lives, is the only Item community in which he received more votes than his competitor.
Driscoll declared victory for himself Tuesday night, citing he was up by approximately 70,000 votes county-wide.
“The people of Essex County think I’m doing a good job and they’ve humbled me and honored me,” Driscoll said.
Originally from Lynn, Driscoll received degrees from both the New England School of Law and Bates College. Before becoming the clerk of courts, Driscoll worked as an assistant district attorney, civil litigator, and criminal defense lawyer. He also owned his own law firm, Driscoll and Associates.
As of press time, Angilly could not be reached for comment.
Register of Deeds
Democratic candidate Eileen Duff and republican candidate Jonathan Ring face off for the position of the Southern Essex Register of Deeds.
As Wednesday morning, Eileen Duff received 18,426 votes in Lynn, 3,440 in Lynnfield, 7,889 in Marblehead, 1,338 in Nahant, 14,911 in Peabody, 6,267 in Saugus, and 5,612 in Swampscott.
As Wednesday morning, Jonathan Ring received 8,642 votes in Lynn, 3,711 in Lynnfield, 3,922 in Marblehead, 709 in Nahant, 10,749 in Peabody, 6,138 in Saugus, and 2,440 in Swampscott.
State Senator
Democratic incumbent, State Sen. Joan Lovely, was running opposed by republican candidate Damian Anketell for 2nd Essex’s state senator.
As of press time, Lovely received 15,146 votes and Anketell received 11,398, in Peabody.
Democratic incumbent, State Sen. Brendan Crighton, was unopposed for reelection for his second-consecutive term as the 3rd Essex’s state senator.
As of Wednesday morning, Crighton received 23,630 votes in Lynn, 5,142 in Lynnfield, 9,641 in Marblehead, 1,682 in Nahant, 8,569 in Saugus, and 6,629 in Swampscott.
He said he is proud of the work he does to represent the area and looks toward the rest of this term and next term. He hopes to address issues regarding transportation and the housing crisis across the Commonwealth, especially in the region.
“We have a great legislative delegation that works really well with our municipal partners as well as with our Congressional delegation,” Crighton said. “The teamwork is there and we have some really strong leadership and look forward to continuing to develop the policies and make sure the resources are there to help our communities and the people we represent.”
State Representative
Democratic incumbent, State Rep. Jenny Armini was unopposed for her reelection as the state representative for the 8th Essex District.
As of Wednesday morning, Armini received 1,837 votes in Lynn, 9,865 in Marblehead, and 6,566 in Swampscott.
“I am very proud this session that we passed universal school meals, tax cuts for seniors and working families, and a terrific climate bill that begins reducing the state’s reliance on natural gas,” Armini said. “I’m planning on focusing on coastal sustainability efforts, addressing affordability issues. I will also be continuing to find a solution to the pollution at Kings Beach.”
Republican incumbent, State Rep. Donald Wong was unopposed for his reelection as the state representative for the 9th Essex District. As of Wednesday morning, Wong received 2,650 votes in Lynn and 9,013 in Saugus.
Democratic incumbent, State Rep. Dan Cahill, was unopposed for his reelection as the state representative for the 10th Essex District. As of Wednesday morning, Cahill received 9,974 votes in Lynn.
After winning his primary election, Democratic candidate Sean Reid was unopposed for his first term as the state representative for the 11th Essex District. As of Wednesday morning, Reid received 9,265 votes in Lynn.
“It is the honor of a lifetime to give back to the community that has done so much for me. Thank you to the voters of the 11th Essex district for entrusting me with this privilege. They can be sure that I will fight tirelessly for our region and all of our residents,” Reid said.
Democratic incumbent, State Rep. Tom Walsh was unopposed for his reelection as the state representative for the 12th Essex District. As of press time, Walsh 16,795 votes in Peabody.
“Our priority is always the budget. We’ve had some very good years, so we have to be very careful as we move forward that we can still provide the services and still bring a little bit extra home,” Walsh said of the upcoming term.
Democratic incumbent, State Rep. Sally Kerans was unopposed for her reelection as the state representative for the 12th Essex District. As of press time, Kerans received 3,748 votes in Peabody.
“We’ve done some very, very good work, and I do credit the house speaker, Ron Mariano, for setting an agenda. We still have some things we’d like to get done,” Kerans said.
“I’m keen to work with my colleagues in the Women’s Caucus. We’ll be looking at our priorities again this year. Economic advancement for women among other things, it’s these umbrella issues like health care access that will continue to occupy my time and attention,” she added.
Democratic incumbent, State Rep. Jessica Giannino was unopposed for her reelection as the state representative for the 16th Suffolk District. As of press time, Giannino received 1,684 votes in Saugus.
“This past session, I’ve been proud to champion legislation that supports our law enforcement officials, strengthens working families, expands access to affordable healthcare, and invests in sustainable infrastructure for our communities,” Giannino said. “We’ve made meaningful progress on some critical issues, but there is still much to accomplish. Next session, I’m focused on advancing initiatives to improve public transportation, secure funding for our district, and enhance public safety programs. I’m committed to ensuring that our legislative efforts continue to make a tangible difference for the people of Revere and Saugus.”
Republican incumbent, State Rep. Bradley Jones was unopposed for his reelection as the state representative for the 20th Middlesex District. As of press time, Jones received 6,138 votes in Lynnfield.
