The Marblehead, Swampscott, and Salem fire departments responded to a two-alarm fire at 138 West Shore Drive on Wednesday.
The fire was knocked down just before 12:30 p.m., as residents of the home were consoled by others.
Marblehead Fire Chief Jason Gilliland said that the blaze began in the house’s basement, and was first reported by the homeowner. He added that while he and his fellow firefighters have an idea of how the fire started, the cause is still officially undetermined.
One Marblehead firefighter had to be transported to an ambulance, but Gilliland said that he is doing well.
Gilliland added that none of the home’s residents were injured.
Delays were reported as both ends of the street were blocked off, specifically West Shore Drive’s intersections with Pleasant and Village streets.
