While the Marblehead Christmas Walk may seem like an event that just magically appears each year, the
key to its success is planning and a very active steering committee.
“We start meeting around Labor Day and meet weekly as the event gets closer,” explained Marblehead
Chamber of Commerce director Katherine Koch.
The committee consists of about a dozen local businesspeople, artisans, and townspeople. They work
on recruiting businesses to participate (more than 50 are involved this year), along with soliciting live
entertainment, sponsors for major events, distributing posters, and serving as an overall sounding board
for the event.
Cooperation is the key to making this a community celebration of the holiday season and all that makes
Marblehead a special place.
“This event brings out the best in people every year,” Koch noted. “The generosity of our sponsors and
energy of our volunteers makes this a weekend to remember for visitors and longtime residents alike.
With the tree lighting, trolley rides, Santa’s landing, and the parade we’re making memories that last a
lifetime”.
