Former Marblehead postal worker sentenced for conversion of government money

December 6, 2023 by Charlie McKenna

BOSTON โ€” A Saugus resident who worked as a postal worker in Marblehead was sentenced to time served and two years of supervised release for his role in a pair of schemes to steal money from the U.S. Postal Service, officials said.

Zeon Johnson, 28, was also ordered to pay restitution to the postal service in the amount of $18,206, the office of Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy said in a statement. Johnson pled guilty to one count of conversion of government money in September 2023.

While working as a Sales and Service Distribution Associate for USPS at the Marblehead Post Office, Johnson converted more than $18,000 in USPS funds for his own use by stealing cash funds paid by customers for stamps and issuing USPS money orders payable to himself, the statement said. The schemes took place between July 2019 and June 2020. Johnson was hired in August 2018.
