The legacy of General John Glover will come alive under the glow of lanterns and the steady rhythm of drums as Glover’s Regiment embarks on its annual commemorative march to Burial Hill. The event, open to the public, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1, starting at approximately 5 p.m. from the Old Town House on Washington Street.
The march honors General Glover, a Marblehead native and Revolutionary War hero, who passed away on Jan. 30, 1797. Known for his leadership in the Continental Army and his pivotal role in key battles, including the crossing of the Delaware River, Glover’s contributions to the nation, state, and his hometown are remembered with solemn reverence.
Captain Seamus Daly, commander of the regiment, will deliver an oration at Burial Hill, reflecting on General Glover’s remarkable service and enduring legacy. Following the address, the regiment will render honors with three musket volleys before returning to the Old Town House.
Dressed in authentic 18th-century attire, members of Glover’s Regiment will lead the march, which will be accompanied by the atmospheric light of lanterns and the sound of a steady drumbeat. The public is warmly invited to join the procession, either in modern clothing or with a nod to history by carrying candlelit lanterns to illuminate the journey.
