Over the weekend, The Health Department reopened Grace Oliver Beach for swimming a day after it was shut down the Police Department announced in a Facebook post Friday morning.
On Thursday, the department posted a statement regarding the beach’s closure, stating that it “failed to meet the minimum standards for bathing beaches due to a bacterial exceedance,” after being tested on Wednesday. The beach was subsequently tested again on Thursday, with results coming back on Friday that allowed the board to reopen the beach.
Devereux Beach, Crocker Park, Gas House, and Stramski’s Beach have also been tested, and those beaches remain open.
Police are asking that any questions on the closure be directed to Director of Public Health Andrew Petty or Public Health Nurse Tracy Giarla.
