Just a year after its opening, the bike park located at Green Street Woods is set to expand.
According to a statement from the Friends of Green Street Woods, the second phase will involve expanding the park with infrastructure.
“With the necessary permits from the Conservation Commission now in place, the Friends of Green Street Woods plan to build two bridges across an intermittent stream, opening access to additional land that could more than double the size of the trail system,” the statement read.
The park has been utilized on a nearly daily basis by community members, and the statement mentioned that it has even hosted bike-themed birthday parties. Maintenance and inspection of the trails have been carried out by neighbors living in the area.
Several families and organizations in the vicinity have contributed to the project, including Marblehead School of Music, Marblehead Cycle, and the Marblehead Rotary Club.
Members of the public are invited to contribute to the next stages of the project during a “Build Day” scheduled for Saturday, May 4, at 9 a.m. The statement noted that all volunteers are required to sign a waiver, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
“Volunteers should bring their own gloves and hand tools if possible,” the statement concluded.
