Malcolm Miller

Join A Discussion Of Malcolm Miller’s Poetry At October Salon With Claire Keyes

October 11, 2023 by For The Weekly News

On Thursday Oct. 19 the Poetry Salon will meet to discuss the poetry of Malcolm Miller; a poet who lived most of his life in Salem, Mass. Joining us will be Rod Kessler, Professor Emeritus at Salem State University, an advocate of Miller and his poetry. Following Miller’s death, Kessler and other admirers sifted through over 3,000 of Miller’s poems to select the ones included in a collection titled “What I Am Always Waiting For.”

Miller published nearly sixty books of poetry during his lifetime. Many of these were cheap, self-published works; a few were published by main-stream presses. Most recently, Derby Wharf Light Box published the chapbook “No!” to cover more of Miller’s work. His poems are grounded in place, they reflect a knowledge of form by defying it. They express a deep self-knowledge, both tragic and humorous.

Please join Claire Keyes, Professor Emerita at Salem State University, for what promises to be a lively discussion of Miller’s poems. The Salon meets from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Abbot Public Library on 3 Brook Road in Marblehead or via Zoom. To attend via Zoom, please register in advance for this meeting here: tinyurl.com/Poetry-Salon-Oct-2023.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Poetry packets will be available at the library or online at tinyurl.com/Poetry-Salon-Oct-2023.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of Abbot Public Library.
