The Marblehead Task Force Against Discrimination, in conjunction with the Northshore Juneteenth Association (NSJA), will host the annual Marblehead Juneteenth Ceremony on June 14 at 4:30 p.m. on the Abbot Hall lawn.
Marblehead High School teacher Candice Sliney and Glover School teacher Diane Gora, along with student representatives Celia Sliney and Helina Tadesse, are currently planning the event.
The ceremony will feature African drumming and storytelling with Greg Coles of Greg Coles Dance and Drum, a reflection from the Rev. Andre Bennett, a performance of the Black National Anthem by Tanya Crowell, and several speeches.
Select Board member Jackie Belf-Becker and NSJA President Nicole McClain will join students in making remarks at the ceremony.
Student speakers include Damilola Graciella Olabisi, Bernardo Bannis, Shakayla Baxter, Alisa Colon, Tyron Countymon, Anais Disla Soto, Trinity Hobson, Tamia Johnson, Emiyah Setalsingh, Helina Tadesse, Kendal-Arielle Vendrine-Ngole, Christian Weston, and Le’Daisha Williams.
