Freshman Nolan Glass competes at 150 pounds. (Michael Stamison)

Lessons learned for Black and Blue

January 21, 2026 by Joey Barrett

BILLERICA — It was a busy Saturday for Marblehead/Swampscott’s co-op wrestling team, as the team took part in a quad-meet inside of Billerica Memorial High. The Black and Blue lost to Lawrence (59-15), Greater Lawrence Tech (72-11), and Billerica (48-28).

“Very disappointing attendance and showing, but there were some bright spots that should be acknowledged,” said Marblehead/Swampscott coach Michael Stamison.

Against Greater Lawrence Tech, the Black and Blue’s lone win came via technical fall from Liam O’Brien. Eliot Donato got his hand raised after a forfeit — the seventh grader’s first varsity win — while Connor Zundl added an exhibition victory.

Marblehead/Swampscott’s second match was against Lawrence. Varsity wins were recorded by O’Brien and Colin Hart, both via pinfall, as well as a decision from Andrew Delisle.

“Good win for Andrew,” Stamison said.

The team’s “best showing,” according to Stamison, was against Billerica. Anna Cruikshank and Zundl snagged exhibition wins, while O’Brien, Nolan Glass, and Hart also impressed. Colin Homan picked up a forfeit win.

“And after a no-contest at 215 (pounds), there was a battle at heavyweight,” Stamison said. “Senior Xavier Tejeda was trailing 3-0 going into the third period. We elected to start him on top and he was able to turn and pin his opponent as time was running out.”

Marblehead/Swampscott’s dual-meet record dipped to 3-9.
