With renovations in full swing, the Abbot Public Library Foundation will be holding its inaugural gala next Friday in support of the project.
The community has stepped up in a big way, with a number of sponsors making contributions (See the full list of sponsors on page A5).
An Elegant Evening in Support of Abbot Public Library will take place June 16 from 6-9 p.m. at the Thompson Estate, located at 4 Broadmere Way.
“Now more than ever, we appreciate the work of public libraries,” read a press release for the gala. “While many cities across our country are facing financial hardships in keeping doors to their libraries open, our town is ensuring that our newly renovated library continues to provide free, inclusive, and adaptive spaces for gathering; as well as fulfill its vital role as a supporter of literacy, lifelong learning and pursuit of knowledge.”
When the project finishes, there will be major upgrades to technology, bigger meeting spaces, bright and airy gathering spaces, and a newly-designed garden. In addition, the library’s programming has been upgraded and expanded under Library Director Kimberly Grad.
“I am delighted to know that we have the support of the Abbot Public Library Foundation in gathering community resources to support the renovation,” said Grad. “I am especially thankful for all of the work that Foundation directors have done to plan the inaugural gala event, which will set a precedent for raising funds for the library on an annual basis to not only support future infrastructure needs for maintenance and technology upgrades, but also to support the development of programming for all age groups.”
All donors of $5,000 or more will be included in one of the Recognition Society plaques that will be prominently displayed in the renovated library at 235 Pleasant St.
