Local authors Susan Cairns Fischer and David H. Roper perched at Abbott Hall for a book signing for their most recent works, “Marblehead Boat Names – Third Edition” and “The Ghosts of Gadus Island,” respectively.
Fischer’s book, which lists boat names in the town, began when she and her father slipped notes into people’s boats asking them about the explanations behind their boat names. She collected more than 800 boat names and the stories behind them are in the third edition of her book.
“The Ghosts of Gadus Island” is Roper’s fifth book and it is based on a true story on a fictional island off the coast of Maine. It is the story “of young love, loss, and the order of nature.”
One of Ropers’ books, “Beyond Mermaids,” was a Boston Globe bestseller.
