To the editor,
Thank you for your continuing coverage of traffic safety issues in Marblehead. It was disappointing to read the Marblehead Police Department Chief Dennis King offer an anodyne call for “all parties to be vigilant.” As the diagrams on an incident report shows, the driver of a 6,300-pound Toyota SUV failed to yield the right of way when making a left turn. Yet the driver was not cited. Instead, Marblehead law enforcement blames the victim. The good news is that the MPD — with the generous donation of time by Dan Shuman of Marblehead Cycle — will soon have bicycles for officers to ride. We cannot have safe roads until the culture of the MPD changes; getting patrol officers out of their fortified Ford Explorers and onto bicycles is a first step.
Sincerely,
Dan Albert
