To the editor:
I urge you to support Larry Simpson – garden designer, plant educator, and 30-year Marblehead resident – for Recreation and Parks Commission.
As a member of the Sustainable Tree Committee and a native plant expert, Larry has generously donated his time to help Marblehead Tree Warden Jon Fobert and volunteers plant street trees in town each spring. He also recently collaborated with the Recreation and Parks Department to design and install a pollinator garden at Chandler Hovey Park with the help of students from the Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School.
Larry turns each of these greening efforts into an educational opportunity, from instructing volunteers about the best way to orient a bare-root tree to thrive on the streets of Marblehead, to teaching agriculture students about which native plants survive best in the harsh conditions of Marblehead Neck.
He believes our Recreation and Parks Department must support outdoor sports and activity programs for children and adults, while also providing support for nature.
Please vote for Larry Simpson for Recreation and Parks Commission on June 20.
Sincerely,
Laurie Fullerton
