To the editor:
There is zero benefit to Marblehead or its residents in the MBTA Communities Law. All of our public housing should be restricted to long-term residents of our town who need lower cost housing, period.
There is a small group of people devoted to convincing us that somehow, our town will benefit from this fiasco.
I would like this group to spell out in plain English how we will benefit and I don’t want to hear a bunch of feel-good, wishy-washy, mushy statements. Give us hard, cold facts. I sometimes wonder if there is the slighted hint of profiteering threaded through their B.S.
So what if our schools aren’t filled to capacity. That’s no reason to destroy the quality of life we all enjoy here in town. Marblehead is a safe, quiet, beautiful spot, uncorrupted by the crime, violence, fear, and all the other chads you hear about outside of our area, i.e., densely populated cities.
We already have some of these issues in town and we don’t need to open our doors to more.
Comments like “only three ’ADUs’ so far” sound like “it’s only a small amount of cancer so far.” If you want a preview of what this mandated densification looks like, take a ride through Boston’s neighborhoods and check out the double- and triple-deckers jammed together, the trash and graffiti everywhere. Of course, it would take a while, but this could be the future of Marblehead, because I think the MBTA Act is only a beginning reaction to overpopulation and immigration.
The penalty for non-compliance pales compared to losing our Marblehead.
Finally, this whole MBTA Act/Law thing being pushed down our throats is a perfect example of the way Trump will run our lives if he gets in.
