To the editor,
In my opinion, the current School Committee is dysfunctional. Their actions — or lack thereof — have cost the town a lot of money and have left critical issues unresolved.
Back in 2022, the people of Marblehead voted in favor of a $25 million override. Part of that vote included $9.1 million specifically allocated for the high school roof. That roof has never been replaced. The building is in rough shape and still in desperate need of repairs. This kind of inaction is unacceptable, especially when it impacts our students and teachers directly.
Being a member of a local board like the School Committee has nothing to do with national politics or party affiliation. What truly matters is putting the best interests of Marblehead first. Personal agendas and petty politics have no place in this work.
I’ve had extensive conversations with Emily DeJoy, and I believe she will be a real asset to the School Committee. Her background, level-headedness, and unbiased approach are exactly what Marblehead needs. Emily’s only agenda is to serve our town and make sure every child in Marblehead receives the best education possible. She wants every student to succeed — and that’s the kind of commitment we need.
I will be voting for Emily DeJoy on June 10 for Marblehead School Committee, and I encourage others to do the same. I know she’ll always act in the best interest of our schools.
Sincerely,
David Rodgers
