WRENTHAM — After a season-opening defeat to Bishop Fenwick, Marblehead (0-2) failed to avenge itself, falling to King Philip on the road, 40-13, last Friday. The Magicians scored a touchdown in each half, but a 20-0 first-quarter hole was too much to climb out of.
Marblehead trailed by as many as 26 points in the second quarter. From there, a 20-yard touchdown pass from Finn Gallup (66 yards passing) to Ryan Golden brought life to the visitors. Gallup completed the scoring in the second half when he bolted for a 53-yard rushing score, but that would be all.
Gallup ran for nearly 70 yards, Yael Garcia picked up 14 yards rushing, and Sam Thompson hauled in two passes for 40 yards.
The good news, however, is that the 0-2 start is nothing new for most of Marblehead’s roster. Last year, the Magicians started 0-4 before finishing the regular season with a 3-4 record and a postseason win over Middleborough in the MIAA state tournament.
Coach Jim Rudloff and company welcome Shepherd Hill to Piper Field at 7 p.m. on Friday.
