The Marblehead School Committee announced that it will hold a joint meeting with the Select Board to interview applicants for the committee’s vacant position on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Potential candidates are being asked to submit a cover letter and resume to both the School Administration Office and the Office of the Select Board by Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. They can also be sent via email to School Committee Chair Sarah Fox and town Administrative Aide Kyle Wiley.
“Two copies of materials should be submitted, both on the same day — one to the School Committee and one to the Select Board,” the committee wrote in a press release. “Electronic submission is preferred.”
All candidates will be interviewed at the Feb. 7 meeting, with the chosen applicant being appointed at its conclusion. The committee emphasized that the open position’s term will expire in June, and the new member will have to seek reelection if they wish to continue serving.
Former School Committee member Meagan Taylor resigned effective immediately on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Taylor was first elected to the School Committee in 2018 and won a second term in 2021. Prior to joining, she had served as co-chair of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council.
Under the School Committee’s Unexpired Term Fulfillment Policy, the committee and Select Board have a shared responsibility to fill the vacancy.
Taylor’s resignation left a vacancy on the committee for the second time in less than two years. In October 2022, former Vice Chair Emily Barron resigned due to a conflict of interest with her professional career. Her term was finished by Tom Mathers, who did not seek reelection.
