From seascapes to storied sculptures, the Marblehead Arts Association (MAA) is presenting seven new exhibits by artist members, beginning Saturday, Aug. 12.
The artwork will be on view through Sept. 24 in the galleries of the MAA’s historic mansion at 8 Hooper St. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The exhibits feature the works of artists Louis and Marjorie Rizzo, Janet Wolahan, Dan Zampino, Joe Votano, Michelle J. Kenna, Patricia Scialo and Shawn Stolarz.
The Rizzos explore kaleidoscopic color magic through watercolors. Wolahan’s inspiration comes from the coasts of both New England and Ireland. Zampino is presenting his sculptures inspired by travel. Votano draws inspiration from the Maine coast, in the spirit of artist Andrew Wyeth. Working in collage and reflecting a theme of loss, Kenna uses paper, watercolor and acrylic paint, handwritten mementos from loved ones, old photos, maps and ripped remnants of old paintings in her exhibit. Scialo’s art focuses on altering photographs using a mixed-media approach. Stolarz’s exhibit highlights his interest in drawing and painting the human figure — exploring and blending both Realism and Surrealism.
The MAA galleries are open and free to the public. The exhibits will be available for viewing in-person Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The artwork will also be available for online viewing in a virtual exhibit on the MAA website www.marbleheadarts.org.
