The all-volunteer-run organization puts on a special event with uniquely-decorated sea life from local artists with proceeds to support student scholarships and Festival events
The Marblehead Festival of Arts (MFoA) welcomes its fifth annual Festival of Cod auction, adding whales to the mix for 2023. Back by popular demand, the online auction is taking place starting June 2 and runs through July 4, 2023. Proceeds from the auction go directly to fund festival events and the student scholarships, which are given annually to Marblehead residents planning to pursue the arts in college.
The MFoA asked talented artists throughout Essex County to submit creations, using an artistic style and media of their choosing, to be up for bid in the auction. The proceeds of this auction will go to supporting the MFoA scholarship fund for high-school seniors and program funds for future artists.
Throughout June and leading up to July 4, the cod will be on display for all to check out in local businesses, shops, and restaurants of Marblehead. The MFoA is also hosting a scavenger hunt where participants are invited to find all of the clues related to each Cod and Whale and match them to the artists. Scavenger hunt cards can be found at several local businesses including Shubie’s, Arnould Gallery, and Marblehead Mercantile, as well as at MarbleheadFestival.org. Winners will receive a MFoA T-shirt and drawings will be held on Mondays.
The whales will also have their time to shine by being displayed together — in a pod! — on the second floor of Abbot Hall. The 54’ whales were made possible by generous business sponsors.
