The Marblehead Museum is holding its annual fundraising dinner at The Landing Restaurant March 18 at 6 p.m. to raise money for the final season of archeological work at the Jeremiah Lee Mansion.
Associate Director Jarrett Zeman said the museum has been doing archeological work at the Mansion for the past few years and has collaborated with the Fiske Center for Archaeological Research at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
“Some of the artifacts that we’ve found have really filled some holes in our knowledge and have really helped us gain a better picture of what life was like at the estate during those periods,” said Jarrett Zeman, the museum’s associate director.
He said the artifacts found through these archaeological digs vary greatly.
“We find a lot of animal bones. We find a lot of food refuse that tells us a bit about what the Lee family, or later families, might have been eating, as well as what kind of wildlife was there at the time,” Zeman said. “The jars, like the ones in our social media posts, are good indications of the type of pottery glassware that they might have had in the mansion during that period – or in some cases, what the bank families would have used.”
Some artifacts will be on display at the fundraising event.
Reservations are recommended, as seating is limited.
