Congratulations Marblehead, you’ve received another endorsement as one of the best towns on the region’s coast.
NewEngland.com named Marblehead the top coastal town in New England in its 2024 Best Places to Live list.
“A breeze ruffles Marblehead’s harbor, having sailed in from across the world. Colorful houses grow mellow in the dusk as vintage-style street lamps glow,” Annie Graves wrote. “A few blocks beyond the section known as Old Town, restaurant stovetops are fired up and diners settle in.”
In addition to the town’s history, small businesses, and restaurants, the article takes a focus on its sailing culture as a main draw.
“Sooner or later you’ll stumble across a yacht club here (there are at least six), but maybe that’s mandatory in a North Shore town set on a beautiful harbor just 17 miles from Boston,” Graves writes. “A quick scramble up the hill at Crocker Park, with its broad water views, confirms why Marblehead touts itself as America’s yachting capital, as well as the birthplace of the nation’s Navy.”
Marblehead has been making its mark recently in town rankings and lists. Just last year, it finished third in voting for USA Today‘s “10 Best Coastal Small Towns in the U.S. for 2023” list, trailing only Sandusky, Ohio and Stuart, Fla.
So, Marblehead, you have now received regional and national votes for best coastal town. Could the town now pop up on a list of the best continental, or even global, coastal towns? For that, we will have to wait and see.
