Marblehead Pack 11 Cub Scouts make meal bags

November 20, 2024 by Grace Calandrella

On Sunday, Cub Scout Pack 11 of Marblehead met at the Community Center to create meal bags for My Brother’s Table out of Lynn.

Pack 11 consists of first and second graders, and combined, the children made a total of 125 meal bags, 75 lunch bags and 50 dinner bags. Each bag held sandwiches, snacks, drinks and napkins.

The cub scouts went through four full jars of peanut butter to create a total of fifty sandwiches. Cub scout leaders organized parents to help purchase or donate all the items that went into the bags.

Prior to putting food in the bags, the cub scouts joyously decorated the bags with fall themed stickers and drawings. They also added handwritten letters with well wishes to each of the bags for recipients to read and enjoy.

The cub scouts were able to earn their Tiger Circle badges after completing the task. To earn the badge, cub scouts had to complete an “act of kindness,” and in this case they certainly did.

My Brother’s Table is the largest soup kitchen in the North Shore helping combat hunger and poverty throughout the community, according to their website, mybrotherstable.org. Founded in 1982, My Brother’s Table has now served over eight million free, hot meals to those in need.

“They were so appreciative of the bags and the kiddos even got a round of applause from the volunteers,” said one cub scout leader.

This is now the second year Pack 11 Cub Scouts have created bags for My Brother’s Table and they look forward to participating again to help those in need.
