Gov. Maura Healey’s administration announced Tuesday the recipient list of $2,910,000 in grants to improve public-school security. The federal funds have been divided between 42 different school districts, and Marblehead is one of them.
Marblehead has been awarded a total of $59,750.54 after the competitive application process.
“I know the recipients will welcome the opportunity to make important safety improvements,” State Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Jeffrey C. Riley said in a press release.
The money is managed by the Office of Grants and Research branch of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
The funding will be aimed at improving school-safety infrastructure, security enhancements at entrances, installation of new interior doors, and the upgrading of central communication systems to support staff communication in emergency situations. The program allowed districts to apply for funds to upgrade security infrastructure for up to three school buildings.
“These grants will provide schools with the resources necessary to foster safe learning environments for students and educators. Our administration is committed to collaborating across federal, state and local governments and leveraging every possible tool to enhance safety across Massachusetts and within our schools,” Healey said in a statement.
