Resident Anne Rodgers was out lobster fishing with her husband Dave Rodgers on Thursday, Sept. 14, when she made an incredibly rare catch. Out of the blue, a blue lobster appeared among the haul of crustaceans. A blue lobster has approximately a 1-in-2,000,000 chance of making an appearance. According to multiple studies, the blue pigmentation is caused by an overproduction of the protein crustacyanin. When the excess crustacyanin combines with astaxanthin, another protein commonly found in the clawed creatures, it turns the shell blue.
