Some of the best of the best.
In the Northeast Invitational this past weekend, a three-day meet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, the Magicians of Marblehead did their thing – and then some.
In the high jump, Graham Tips cleared 5-6 to place second in the meet, while Paige Tredwell led the way for Marblehead with a clearance of 4-10 on her first jump.
Leaping over to the long jump, Alex Hersey recorded a 20-2.5 to finish 13th overall.
“This mark tied Alex’s best jump from indoor last year,” said coach Nolan Raimo.
In the 55m, Thomas Carlson finished 11th out of 360 competitors with a time of 6.75, just .05 from his best mark earlier this year. Jacob Bobowski also finished 110th with a time of 7.18.
“Tommy and Jacob competed in the 300m for the first time the day before – which definitely tired their legs – and they still ran quality times in the dash,” Raimo said of the 55m duo.
Hurdle time. Hersey led the way to finish 24th in the event, while Paige Tredwell finished 25th with a time of 9.52 and Elise Burchfield followed in 45th (9.99) out of 153 competitors.
Raimo couldn’t have spoken more highly about Tredwell.
“Paige continues to have a remarkable hurdle season with room to improve, and she is positioned as the top hurdler in the NEC (Northeastern Conference),” he said.
Isaac Gross (4:28.59, 8-second personal best) impressed in the mile, while in the 300m, Sadie Halpern sprinted to 14th with a time of 43.04 – the 36th fastest time in Massachusetts as a sophomore.
Yes, a sophomore.
In the 600m, Xavier Grazado (1:31.65, 2-second personal best) continued his strong season with a 30th place finish out of 142 runners.
As for Cat Piper, she “had the best indoor race of her career,” as said by coach William Herlihy. She ran a 13:00.12 and finished ninth out of the 14 runners in the unseeded 2-mile.
