The Marblehead Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) has officially launched its nomination forms for the community to celebrate its “Unsung Heroes.” Nominations will be accepted until June 2.
The Marblehead SEPAC created the Unsung Hero event in 2014. Since then, it has been an annual opportunity for community members to show their appreciation to those who are making a positive impact in special education.
“This annual exercise has been a great opportunity to showcase the examples of caring and sacrifice so many of our professionals give to our children,” said SEPAC Co-Chair Jeff Levin.
According to the Marblehead SEPAC website, “Unsung Heroes can be anyone in your community or school — anyone who has shown exemplary work, made a significant contribution, and/or made an impact beyond their expected responsibilities.”
Members of the community, including teachers, parents, administrators, and students, can nominate a person for this recognition. Each nomination will highlight one person and include a brief story about how they impacted the special education community as a whole or an individual within the special education community.
Nominations should include examples of how the nominee’s efforts go “above and beyond” and how their actions relate to promoting inclusion, enhancing the special education community, inspiring others, and/or positively impacting an individual or group of students.
“While we had planned on having an in-person event this year — for the first time in four years — we will likely need to keep this as an online celebration for one more year,” said Levin. “The effort to put on a meaningful event is significant, and our small, voluntary board would benefit from more participation in the coming year.”
The Marblehead SEPAC invites all parents to join its board meetings held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. via Zoom, as well as its meetings with district leadership on the second Friday of every month at noon via Zoom.
All meeting agendas are posted to the town website at least 48 hours prior to the meetings and all are welcome.
